After looking around the house I realised that the Ikea bed lights would be perfect for this, so time to construct a posable arm for the camera.  Camera + Ikea light + Lolly sticks + 3 x Elastic bands! Finger Movies - the ideal way to create mini kickstarter movies

Image
Whilst creating my first ever Kickstarter project for the creation of Pallet Powered Gardens , I wanted to create a quick and funny video to show how the gardens would flourish and grow on the streets, but it had to be low budget. I thought one hour would be long enough, but in total it was 4.5 hours with a lot of repeating the script again and again. Coughing, forgetting the lines, picking the wrong item. Also, failing to have a stand for the camera I used my daughter's lego to construct a stand with a slight tilt. Lego is universal! The two characters featured in the video are from an old photo of me and one from a Hello Magazine celebrity - plenty to choose from, all ready with added makeup and smiles. Bluetack on the back and stuck to a hand creating a mini-character instantly. The stage is the inside of a breakfast box using foil on the windows. The Pallet Powered Gardens are lolly sticks stuck together - I cheated with the veg as it's grass and a bit of a f

Secret Squares - an easy to make game

Image
Secret Squares is an easy to make game with a random outcome each time. The concept and implementation is really simple, all you do is write down some event with action on the back of blank pieces of paper. Then use some toys as piece counters to move over the squares. Players take turns to move onto squares - aiming for an end square, on the way when they land on a new square they turn over the piece of paper to see what the event and action are on the other side. For example "You find some energy food, move forward one square.". Let your kids add their own events and actions - be as creative and crazy as possible! My daughter added "Get a Lift - 5 squares", she landed on this one and won the game...easy! Secret Squares - In play Secret Squares - Possible events and actions, add blank ones as well Secret Squares - and a fairy wins, reaching the  door! Secret Squares - Players start at the beginning, trying to reach the door Secret Sq

A Lasting Grand Design

Image
We have only had our allotment since end of last year (Nov/2014) and have learnt that to get the most from the allotment requires a lot of time, energy and effort - sometimes to get minimal returns.  But gardening in the evening watching the sunset, picking the weeds knowing you will see them again, chewing on a broadbean picked freshly and mostly seeing the fruit and vegetables grow is possibly the most rewarding thing that has been given to all of us.   This is a suggestion for a Lasting Grand Design Project for Kevin McCloud of Grand Designs fame, the legacy of a great programme... ... let’s turn prisons into gardens! 46% of adults are reconvicted £36,808  Annual cost of a prison place 1994 Overcrowded in every year since 84,305 Prison population When it can be said by any country in the world, my poor are happy, neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them, my jails are empty of prisoners , my streets of beggars, the aged are not

Bake some shapes - use plasticine cutters

Image
Wow! After finding out that to make pitta bread is really easy with strong flour, salt, oil, water and a packet of yeast, with my daughter we got the plasticine cutters out to make some shapes. The big ball is a cheese ball, the others you will have to work out for yourself. Cheese ball Giraffe Heart Fish Double Fish A snake Simple dough - using some plasticine cutters Final baked result!

A Wallpaper Book

With a hole punch and scissors you can complete this in 10 minutes easily. A Wallpaper Book Create your own Dragon Book Scissors and hole punch, plus something to bind it

Skip Raiders

Image
Just like "rent my parkingspace", this is to open up my skip to the public but in a controlled manner, with a first come first served basis. * Owner gets skip and registers skip on web site - length of time and best time to Raid it. * Or Raider who is interested posts a printed card asking for permission to access the skip * Owner says what will be dumped into the skip * Raider asks for access and says what they would like "I'm after bricks" for example * Raider complies with instructions and access time and empties skip once - allowing other people access in the queue. Skip Raiders - Original Art Work To create a simple Skip Raiders Message then use an old plastic carton and add the message on one side and the response on the other - I will produce some templates soon to make this easier. Skip Raiders - Create message from milk bottle Skip Raiders - Full message and response on single strip Skip Raiders - Add magnet for attachment to ski
